Question for the Day

Where is your dream or favorite travel destination and why? If you've already been there, tell a little about how it went. If you have not gone yet, when do you plan to go and what do you hope to see/do when you get there?

  1. New Orleans and Ireland. Nola I traveled to one xmas with Clyde. We didn't do much more than eat and sleep and it was a little disappointing. I wanted to see the bonfires and xmas eve and go hear some o' that good music they have down there. Can you BELIEVE we didn't go and hear music. Typical, but that's a whole 'nother subject. Ahem.
Ireland I've never been to, but it's where my peeps are from. There and Wales.

  2. A girlfriend and I talked about New Orleans, decided not to follow through and went to Charleston, South Carolina instead, and then Katrina came through and devastated the New Orleans area. Saddened after that, but I agree it would be an awesome city to eat and drink your way through. Gastronomic dreamland!

  3. My dream spot would have to be Scotland first, then Greece, on the Mediterranean. My family (MacBean) originated somewhere around Loch Ness, and every time I see pictures of the sweeping landscapes of the lochs and heather covered hills of the Highlands I feel like weeping. The pictures feel like home to me. Bagpipes make my heart well up to bursting. Supposedly, there is a castle that was converted into a hotel that was the original home of the MacBeans and their fellow clans. I'd like to book reservations there and tour around that part of the Highlands.
I'd like to take this trip when Xaviar is a bit older, possibly after his high school graduation. I know I shouldn't wait, but I'd like for him to be old enough to really enjoy it too.

As far as Greece goes, I just fall in love with the sea-side villages along the cliffs that overlook the Mediterranean. The colors are always so vivid in photos, and who wouldn't like to live in one of those little sea dwellings. Plus, the ocean is clean and people can actually swim in it. I'll probably do this trip on my own one day. I might not get to it, but that's where I'd enjoy visiting.

My favorite trips here in the U.S. have been New England (especially Acadia, ME) and New Mexico, the Santa Fe and Taos area (though I stayed in Albuquerque). I visited both places when I was fifteen, and Maine again when I was 30.

  4. Thanks, Amy. I got the name from Emily. Love my wordsmith friends. Greece is definitely on my "bucket" list of travel. My daughter and I traveled to New Mexico a few years ago and were awestruck. Taos was our favorite, but Albuquerque is a close second.

Always believe that you will travel to your beloved destinations either again or for the first time. It will happen; I know it.
